No sophomore slump here.

The DBT’s are always a good idea.

Post punk scorcher.

Not sure they ever got that soul, because there is plenty of it in these sharp witty songs.

Somewhat under rated band’s album had some real sauce.

British soul singer’s sophomore album had some great moments.

14. Lydia Loveless- Somewhere Else

The sound of the greatness that country music could and should be. Take notice Nashville.

Fun is exactly what was had on this rollicking, funny and sharply written dose of parodies on what is hopefully not Al’s swan song.

Captivating round of guitar driven shuffling indie rock epics.

Another heart dredging  wallow in the decline of love.

6. St. Vincent- Self titled

Off the wall guitar wizardry and off bet tunes were straight winners from maestro Annie Clark.

5. Sturgill Simpson- Metamodern Sounds In Country Music

Simpson turns country music on its ear by actually recording true real country music and the best song is a cover version of a new wave hit.

4. Dum Dum Girls- Too True

Using 80’s shine and goth attitude to churn out shimmery ear candy.

3. U2- Songs Of Innocence

The boys took a good bit of kickback from forcing their album into your lives, but hey sometimes a free gift is actually worth it like this great breezy album.

2. The War On Drugs- Lost In A Dream

Beautiful and epic album of dazzling atmospheric guitar rockers and ballads that never dip in quality.

1. Future Islands- Singles

The band would not be denied in this break out year. Hope you caught them live.
